Researchers Map 43 Important Shark and Ray Areas in Indonesia

The Konservasi Indonesia has provided a press release sharing an update on the Important Shark and Ray Areas (ISRA) project from Asia, specifically focusing on the ISRAs delineated in Indonesian waters.

The International Union for Conservation Survival Commission (IUCN) Shark Specialist Group (SSG) recently announced a trend of biodiversity loss for species of the Chondrichthyes class, which includes sharks, rays and ghost sharks (chimaeras). IUCN determined that the extinction risk of this group of species has worsened since the previous assessment in 2014. The number of threatened species worldwide increased from 24% in 2014 to 32.6% in 2021.
