PRESS RELEASE The International Union for Conservation Survival Commission (IUCN) Shark Specialist Group (SSG) recently announced a trend of biodiversity loss for species of the Chondrichthyes class, which includes sharks, rays and ghost sharks (chimaeras). IUCN determined that the extinction risk of this group of species has worsened since the previous assessment in 2014. The number of threatened species worldwide increased from 24% in 2014 to 32.6% in 2021.
