The IUCN SSC Shark Specialist Group mission is to secure the conservation, management and, where necessary, the recovery of the world’s sharks, rays, and chimaeras by mobilizing technical and scientific expertise to provide the knowledge that enables action. This mission unifies our members, and we deliver our impact through collective action. Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is at the core of who we are and central to advance our mission and impact. Our strength is in our inclusivity and our global network of volunteers represents diverse cultures, backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints. Our members support our work, honor our values, and uphold our commitments to take action and advance conservation. We welcome their varied perspectives and unique experiences that help us generate ideas to solve the complex problems of a changing and diverse world. We strive to continue working with our members as well as connecting with other stakeholders, including Indigenous peoples and local communities, through local, regional, and global initiatives. We believe in creating an environment where everyone has equal access to solving environmental problems, cultivating respect and transparency, while relying on science to guide us in our actions to achieve a sustainable future for sharks, rays, and chimaeras.
